Some people might be impressed by the conservatories people they know have attached to their homes, but conclude that their own property isn’t suitable for one. However, it is not the case that only a certain ‘kind’ of house is suitable for this purpose.
According to a recent article in Homebuilding and Renovating Magazine, there are lots of different types of homes that can accommodate a conservatory. It names no fewer than 26 kinds of conservatory ideas, saying there is one for “every kind of home”.
It noted that this has been a major development in the design of conservatories in recent years, with them being “no longer confined to those with traditional-style homes,” but often coming in modern styles that are ideal for more modern dwellings.
Of course, if you have a Victorian home, a Victorian-style conservatory or orangery may still work very well. But the key to note here is that there will be something for different styles, sizes and ages.
If you do have an older home, it suggests matching up the styles, such as the white latticework commonly seen on older window frames. Smaller ones can work well with brick terraces provided these have a clear purpose, such as a hobby room, while in many homes a conservatory can work superbly as a kitchen extension.
Another top tip was for the conservatory to have colours matching your home’s interior, this, of course, being a matter of personal taste and something you can vary whatever the architectural style of your property.
Of course, there may be some kinds of home where there are limitations. Planning permission may be tricky to get for a listed building, a property in a conservation area, or a national park.
