Conservatories give homeowners the opportunity to sit in shelter while they look out at their garden, get closer to nature, and catch a peaceful moment or two.
However, many people don’t find sitting down in their Victorian conservatory relaxing if all they can see is a dirty roof covered in debris and dust.
That is why anyone with an orangery needs to make sure they remember to clean their roofs every so often, as this will enable them to make the most of their sun room without getting distracted by jobs they need to do.
But how do you go about cleaning a conservatory roof?
As they tend to be made of glass, it is important not to attempt to stand or put your body weight on them.
Instead, get a ladder and use a telescopic brush to access the top of the roof that you would, otherwise, be unable to reach.
Even though the roof can look pretty grimy after a few weeks, all you need to use is hot soapy water and give it a gentle scrub with the telescopic brush.
Check what your roof is made out of, as conservatory glass with a self-cleaning coating cannot tolerate chemical cleaning solutions, so don’t use these if you want to avoid damage or permanent streaky marks.
After this, use a pressure washer or a garden hose to rinse off the soapy residue – just make sure you’ve closed any windows first so water doesn’t leak into the room!
For stubborn areas where algae or other stains have formed, you might want to use a microfibre cloth or toothbrush. If you are unable to reach, attach it to your telescopic brush for added height.
Alternatively, you can hire window cleaners who are willing to do conservatory roofs as well, which is a preferable option for those unsteady on their feet or who are extremely busy.
