Top Tips For Making A Conservatory Spring Retreat | Foxfurd

It always looks darkest before dawn, and the winter months are not ideal for people who enjoy using traditional conservatories as a way to get closer to nature.

In times like this it can be better to look ahead to the spring months, where the nights are shorter, the days are longer, the weather is calmer and the gardening season draws ever closer.

Whilst waiting for the days that we can go out and enjoy the garden again, here are some top tips for getting your conservatory ready to be a spring sanctuary.

Declutter And Prepare Your Spring Layout

During the winter, many conservatories seem to become makeshift storage areas, piled high with stuff until the weather finally brightens and it is time to have a clear out.

Why wait that long? Instead of waiting until spring, take some time to have a look at the extra clutter in your underutilised space and use the Marie Kondo method of seeing whether it sparks joy or not.

After this, think about the type of layout you want the conservatory to have and what role it will have during delightful spring days when you have an extra entertainment space available.

You will feel the benefit of it after the vernal equinox, as you will have a bright, welcoming, friendly space that you can enjoy as soon as the sun starts to shine brightly again.

Have A Deep Clean

Thankfully, deep cleaning a conservatory is not as intensive nor as difficult as other rooms of the house may be.

All it takes is a quick mop of the floor, cleaning the windows, dusting off the skirting boards and windowsills and opening the windows a little bit to let some fresh air flow through.

You will easily feel the benefit of it once spring arrives as you will be able to enjoy a fresh, relaxing location perfect for unwinding and catching the first blossoms and blooms.

Add Lightness

Whilst most interior design styles are eschewing whites and neutral shades in favour of a more vibrant colour palette, it can be worth looking into paints, furnishings and fixtures that convey that spring brightness a few weeks early.

Yellows, oranges, and pastel shades of green and blue are a delightful addition that creates a playful, vibrant look and helps people to get into a spring mindset, even when the temperatures are still single degrees, and we are still waiting for the sun to shine brightly.

As many conservatories are designed to invite as much light in as possible, a lot of modern interior design styles are perfect for use for a springtime conservatory, such as natural textures, neutral shades and an emphasis on light and space.

The one exception to this rule would be the rather common use of mirrors and mirrored accessories. Whilst used to create an illusion of space in smaller rooms, the greater exposure to light can make this approach somewhat counterproductive.

Regardless, getting yourself into a spring mindset early can pay dividends when it is time to make the most of your newly vibrant spring-focused space.
