Spring hasn’t exactly been all it’s cracked up to be this year, which is why people who have been planning BBQs and garden parties for the three upcoming May bank holidays might be worried their arrangements will be scuppered by the weather.
This doesn’t have to be the case though, as there are plenty of ways you can still host even if the heavens do open.
Make use of the conservatory
This is where traditional conservatories really come into their own. Instead of trying to cram everyone into the kitchen or living room, you have a space that still feels like it might be outdoors.
Many people use their conservatory as a garden room, extra lounge or dining area, which means it has the right flooring, plenty of natural light, and enough greenery to convince guests they’re still enjoying being outside.
What’s more, it means you don’t have to worry about a lack of space, everyone having to take their shoes off, or spilling crisps or canapes all over the carpet.
Garden parasols
If you don’t have a conservatory, you might have to resort to using parasols. Ones that can be tilted are ideal, especially in the case of sideways rain. Make sure you invest in a good-quality one that is water resistant though, as you don’t want them to start leaking if it’s a heavy downpour.
Gazebos
A better option if you are hosting a big party is buying a gazebo that you can erect in the garden, just in case it rains.
It is sensible to get a gazebo that will fit as many guests as you have invited, so you don’t have a few soggy friends trying to cram their way under cover.
