After a few lovely weeks of sunshine, most of the UK has been hit by thunderstorms and heavy rain, which doesn’t seem to be easing.
While this has been good for our gardens, homeowners with traditional conservatory roofs might want some suggestions on how they can reduce the sound of rain hammering down.
The Met Office has predicted showers will continue over the next week or so, particularly in the northwest of England, northern Scotland and Northern Ireland.
However, other parts of the UK are not out of the woods, as meteorologist Andy Page said “it will remain an unsettled and relatively cool period” for the rest of the month.
For those with polycarbonate conservatory roofs, the first thing they can do to reduce the sound of rain is to fit an insulated ceiling. This provides sound insulation, while also making the room more energy-efficient.
Alternatively, they could replace the roof altogether, whether they opt for a glass roof or a tiled one. The former will certainly restore the orangery’s original look, but the latter is better at reducing sound.
Another option is to fill the room with sound absorbent accessories, including rugs, blinds, sofas, cushions and throws.
Upholstery is great at soaking up noises, making them quieter places to sit and relax. If there are blinds on the conservatory windows, it is also wise to pull them down on rainy days, as it can dramatically reduce the sound on the roof.
